What is Bunion

One of the foot diseases that do not grow overnight is bunion. It forms slowly over the years due to many reasons. It is also the most common foot problem. "Bunion" is a Latin word and that means turnip. It causes abnormality and pain in foot. If your foot faces a problem such as redness, inflammation, swelling, soreness & pain then these symptoms are because of bunion. Deformity due to this disease causes the big toe to move towards the smaller toes and after some time the big toe comes under the second toe and starts paining. This change in the angle of toe gives pain due to change in position of toe; the skin became thicker as tendons pull the toe into an abnormal position. At this stage the condition of foot become worst and gives pain while walking.

Causes Of Bunion

Now coming to cause of foot bunion, one of the most important factors of bunion is Heredity. This disease can be transferred from parent to their offspring due to transferring of genes. Other factors of this disease are Rheumatoid or osteoarthritis. Also, if one leg is longer as compared to the other, then chances of bunion increases in the longer leg are very high. It can be noticed that bunion occurs mostly in women. While calculating the ratio of foot bunion between men and women, women suffer 10 times more than men. The main cause of this in women is because of their foot wear. Bunion is commonly caused by wearing improper fitting shoes or footwear. In order to avoid such foot problems, try to avoid the use of airtight cone shaped footwear. The drawback with such type of footwear is that, these footwear force the tendons (i.e. the tissue by which a muscle attaches to bone) to take the shape of your shoes. Shoes with high heels are also a cause of this disease. Doctors recommend wearing comfortable shoes that allows stretching easily for cure of bunion.
